Overview

Kottamchukkadi Thailam (Oil) |

Kottamchukkadi Thailam is a classical Ayurvedic herbal oil crafted using time‑honoured preparation methods. This traditional formulation combines herbs such as Kottam, Chukku (dry ginger), Vacha, Devadaru, and other botanicals, slowly infused into a sesame oil base. The result is a warm, aromatic oil widely used in Ayurvedic body care and wellness routines.

With its earthy fragrance and rich herbal profile, Kottamchukkadi Thailam is often incorporated into:

  • Ayurvedic massage practices
  • Traditional wellness rituals
  • Daily body care routines
  • Spa and Panchakarma settings

This oil reflects the authenticity and depth of classical Ayurvedic preparation

 Traditional Herbal Blend

Kottamchukkadi Thailam is made using a combination of herbs such as:

  • Kottam (Saussurea lappa)
  • Chukku (Dry Ginger)
  • Vacha (Acorus calamus)
  • Devadaru (Cedrus deodara)
  • Kushta, Tila Taila (Sesame Oil), and other classical ingredients

These herbs are traditionally valued in Ayurveda and are processed according to classical preparation methods.

Authentic Ayurvedic Preparation

The oil is prepared through:

  • Decoction of herbs
  • Herbal paste infusion
  • Slow heating in a sesame oil base

This method allows the natural aroma, colour, and texture of the herbs to infuse into the oil.

 Natural Aroma & Texture

  • Warm, earthy, and slightly spicy herbal fragrance
  • Medium‑thick consistency typical of sesame‑based Ayurvedic oils
  • Brownish to deep amber colour depending on the batch and herbs used

Traditional Uses:

Commonly used in traditional Ayurvedic practices for discomfort experienced around the elbow area (tennis elbow).

Often incorporated into wellness routines where stiffness, swelling, numbness, or limited mobility are present, including discomfort associated with cervical spondylosis.

Traditionally applied in body care practices following sports activity or general physical exertion.

 How to use?

  • For muscle and joint pain:

Take the required amount of Kottamchukkadi Thailam in a bowl. Warm it indirectly until it becomes lukewarm.

Sit comfortably on a non-slippery surface and gently massage using slow, circular motions over the joints, applying firm strokes along the bones. Let your skin absorb the oil. Let it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

  • For twisted muscles and sprains:

Spread a piece of cotton, dip it in the warm oil, and apply it over the painful area. Maintain the temperature by replacing the cotton with another one dipped in warm oil regularly. Take a bath in warm water so that the oil penetrates deep into your skin

Note: Please be aware that Kottamchukkadi Thailam should not be applied if the skin has any cuts. If you are using it for the first time, we recommend doing a patch test to rule out any allergies. For external use only.
